January 29, Kathmandu. The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has discussed with the former presidents of the federation today about the ongoing agitation at Republic Media Limited. Based on the suggestions received from the discussion, the federation has written to the concerned bodies to stop the services and facilities received by the limited from the state bodies until the labor issue is resolved.
General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal said that the federation has written to the relevant bodies in accordance with the decision of the federation to continue the agitation until the four-point agreement reached with the federation on 22 Shrawan 2082 by the publishing house of Nagarik Daily is implemented.
In today's discussion, the former presidents of the federation had suggested that the federation move forward firmly in favor of the interests of working journalists. They expressed the view that since freedom of press and expression and labor rights are different issues, it cannot be considered that the agitation in favor of labor rights has violated freedom of press and expression.
Federation President Nirmala Sharma expressed her commitment to continue the agitation in favor of working journalists until results are achieved.
Similarly, Deepak Acharya, Senior Vice President and Coordinator of the Workers' Welfare Promotion Committee, said that the agitation will not stop until Republic Media implements the agreement reached with the Federation. The discussion was attended by Federation Vice President Neetu Pandit, Umid Bagchand, Secretary Ramesh Khatiwada, and Treasurer Ram Krishna Adhikari.
